Hawaii boy hit by lawnmower makes ‘remarkable’ recovery

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – It's been nearly a year since a young boy was hospitalized after being hit by a lawnmower in Ewa Beach.

His doctor says the child's recovery in such a short time is remarkable.

Eight-year-old Parker Israel was discharged from Kapiolani Medical Center For Women and Children in February after 11 weeks.

He has now completed four months of physical therapy and is back in school full-time.

His mother says he is living a life like a normal child again, including running and swimming.

“The whole world was praying for me,” Parker said.

“It took ages to get treatment for my legs and so on. I endured all that pain to get my legs healthy again. Then when everything healed, I was able to be a normal person with normal legs again.”

His doctor says the child's recovery in such a short time is amazing.

“He will be able to do most of the things he wants to do. From that perspective, his recovery is remarkable,” said Dr. Daniel Murariu, who performed the surgery at Kapiolani Medical Center For Women and Children.

Parker's mother says the next big goal is to get him back on a flag football team.
