Garda searches northern part of Cork city to end dispute between two families

Gardaí are conducting land searches in the northern suburbs of Cork city as part of an operation to resolve a feud between two families.

The dispute has led to several incidents in recent days, including shots fired at two houses in the city and an attempted grenade attack on another house.

In the latter incident on Sunday evening in Meadow Park Avenue, Ballyvolane, a controlled explosion was carried out by members of the armed forces after residents were evacuated from their homes and a cordon was set up.

On Thursday, Gardaí searched the area around Blackstone Bridge in Killeen and a source confirmed that the search was specifically looking for weapons “and other evidence” in order to prevent further violence in the wake of the feud.

A Garda helicopter also hovered above us.

While activity has been largely concentrated on the north side of the city, the feud has spread to the south side with the incident at Palmbury Orchard in Togher, where a shot was fired through the window of a building late Friday night.
