Fired X-MEN '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo reveals why he was “removed” from Marvel Studios' BLADE

After working on The Sorcerer (he made headlines for saying the creative team hated Andrzej Sapkowski's books), Beau DeMayo seemed to play a big role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

After initial work on Moon Knighthe was appointed to lead X-Men '97 as editor-in-chief and later joined the blade Film for a remake. However, the author parted ways with Marvel Studios and was fired from the animated remake earlier this year.

Things got increasingly chaotic from there, with allegations of sexual misconduct on DeMayo's part and possible racism and homophobia on the part of Disney/Marvel Studios. Now he's filed suit to invalidate the non-disparagement clause in his separation agreement.

In a 30-minute video posted on his OnlyFans account (via Variety), DeMayo broke his silence on Blade, claiming that Marvel executives joked in his presence that they had “a young Wesley Snipes” to write the film.

He responded yesterday with the statement: “One of the reasons I wanted to make this video is so you can see that Wesley Snipes and I look nothing alike.” DeMayo added: “the last straw” for him when he arrived at Blade's production office and learned “Someone had to crack the whip here.”

We are not 100% sure Are The phrase has racist connotations, and a high-profile legal case in the UK in 2020 found that it was not racist because it typically refers to horses (at least on this side of the pond).

In September 2022, DeMayo claimed he had concerns about adverse conditions on blade with Marvel Studios and “In turn, I was removed from the project in the middle of our move to Atlanta for production and my role in Season 2 of 'X-Men 97' was aggressively sidelined.”

He claims “the receipts and eyewitnesses” to back up those comments, although it's not clear what he's trying to accomplish. While DeMayo continues to claim he's innocent of the sexual misconduct allegations against him, his credibility has suffered somewhat when he urged his fans to sign up to an adult website where he posts the kind of photos he's alleged to have sent to colleagues.

“The rumors being spread online about me are lies and they are offensive, but even more disturbing is that they are a smear campaign designed to discredit my credibility in order to cover up the egregious, prejudiced misconduct that has occurred from select crew members of X-Men '97 all the way up to the top echelons of Marvel Studios,” DeMayo told Deadline this yesterday.

Proverb “These allegations of blatant misconduct are false,” He added that Marvel Studios is a “toxic environment” And “almost criminal working conditions” And “pitts individuals against each other, [stoking] Paranoia to ensure compliance.”
