Action for FF youth – From car crash to rescue from the Amethyst tunnel in Maissau

At 8 a.m. sharp, ten young people and three supervisors arrived at the Maissau fire station and began the so-called 24-hour day, which has already become a tradition. After making the beds in the youth room, the program included leisure activities as the children wished. There were patience games, a paddling pool, the Limberg fire department's hydro shield and table tennis to choose from.

In the middle of it all, all the cell phones suddenly rang. The first alarm! “T2 rescue of one or two people in a traffic accident, one person is trapped in the vehicle,” was the mission information. The exercise location was Aigenstrasse 42 in Maissau. The young people were dispatched within a few minutes and the trapped person was quickly freed using a spreader, scissors and spine board.

After just an hour, the young people were back in the fire station, where the fun continued with hydro shields and table tennis. The FF youngsters were also excited about a new game: kicking with two hollow jet pipes.

The players were completely soaked when the second alarm came: “B2 fire operation”, less than 900 meters from the fire station. On site, youth fire department operations manager Jakob Bauer ordered an extinguishing attack using C pressure hoses and medium foam pipes and the suspected fire was extinguished.

Third mission in the Amethyst World Maissau

Afterwards there was the traditional ice cream, which is donated every year by Mayor Franz Kloiber, before the group drove to Amethyst World, where Käsekrainer and Berner sausages were grilled on an open fire and the fire brigade youth took over the playground.

The young people were not expecting the third alarm to sound right at the Maissau excursion destination. It read: “Search for people in the Amethyst World tunnel – two men are missing!” They ran to the vehicles, where the young people equipped themselves with helmets, gloves and lamps. In the dark tunnel, the alarm kept going off, and it was difficult to find the right path.

The two men – Franz Kloiber and Manfred Buric – found the crew quite quickly and brought them back to light of day.

When they arrived at the fire station, the young people had fun and the last of them didn't go to bed until around 1 a.m. The next morning at 7:30 a.m. there was breakfast before the 24-hour heroes were picked up by their parents.
