Landslide tragedy rocks Nagaland and claims six lives

On Tuesday, September 3, a devastating landslide occurred on National Highway 29 near Pherima in Chümoukedima District, leaving at least six people dead. The incident occurred when a large section of the road collapsed into a ravine, leaving several other people injured.

Authorities confirmed that the death toll has risen to six. The deceased were identified as Khriesangulie, Samir Dutta, Anhieü, Daju, Sopon Biswas and Vijay. Many others were injured in the tragedy.

Debris from the landslide near Pherima village has blocked National Highway 29 and affected traffic in Chumoukedima district. The affected stretch of the road has been washed away and is now impassable for all vehicular traffic between Kohima and Dimapur.

Dimapur Superintendent of Police Kevithuto Sophie, IPS, has issued an urgent warning to the public, advising against using the affected route. Alternative routes, including the Niuland-Kohima route via Zhadima, have been suggested for light motor vehicles only.

IAS Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant has issued a public alert after observing panic buying of essential commodities and fuel. The DC has assured the public that there is no shortage of supplies and has requested the public to maintain their normal shopping habits.

The Governor of Nagaland expressed his grief and regret over the tragic landslides and condoled with the families who lost their loved ones. The Governor assured that the state government is taking all necessary measures to provide relief and assistance to the affected people.

Deputy Prime Minister TR Zeliang expressed his deep sadness over the tragic loss of six lives in the landslide. Zeliang extended his heartfelt condolences to the families and communities affected by the devastating incident.
