Morgantown wins Brooke Invitational tournament | News, Sports, Jobs


WELLSBURG – Morgantown won the Brooke Invitational high school golf tournament at Highland Springs Golf Course on Wednesday. The Mohigans shot a total of 304 against four players, 16 strokes better than runner-up Linsly (320), who passed University (321) for third place.

Adam Gill of the Cadets continued his fine season with an even-par 72 to secure a medal. Andrew Sheets of Morgantown finished second with a 73. Luke Tiu of Wheeling Central managed a 76, while the only other players under 80 were the Mohigans trio of Solas Chhin-Kreiner, Ahyden Shepard and Angela Yao, who all scored 77.

Other points for Linsly were scored by Vinny Demarchi (82), Landen Cook (83) and Carson Gessler (83).

Wheeling Central's Broen Parker (81), Jake Brown (85) and Gary Hatfield (88) supported Tiu and the Maroon Knights finished fourth with 330.

Brooke, which finished fifth with 350, was led by Parker McMahon with 85. Weir's Aiden Ferguson shot 88 and John Marshall's Brandt Blake 82.

Buckeye 174, Shadyside 196

RAYLAND — Kaleb Stang and Dom Kempton both shot 41s as the Panthers defeated the Tigers at Bec-Wood Hills Golf Course. The Tigers' Brennan O'Grady also shot 41.

GIRLS GOLF

Knight and devil in a stalemate

WHEELING – Wheeling Central and St. Clairsville were tied after nine holes at Crispin Golf Club. Both teams scored 139. Edison defeated Martins Ferry 143-144 for third.

Olivia Baker of the Red Devils won the medal with a score of 38, one stroke better than Maddie Potts of the Maroon Knights.

Kallie McKeegan led the Wildcats with 40. Julia Hancock led the Purple Riders with 42.

Magnolia defeats Valley 25-9, 25-3, 25-17

NEW MARTINSVILLE – The Blue Eagles left no doubt with their lopsided win over the Lumberjills on Tuesday.

Jessa Anderson contributed 17 aces, 12 kills and 12 digs for Magnolia. Sidney Knight collected 30 assists. Karli Warder and Kiera Dowler each had seven kills.
