“Slow Horses” Season 4 receives rave reviews

AppleTV+

It is one of the most acclaimed yet underrated series of the current streaming era, and the fourth season is no different.

The fourth season of the dark spy thriller series “Slow Horses” premiered today on Apple TV+ and the critics’ reviews are overwhelming.

After 24 reviews, the series sits at a perfect 100% and a very strong 8.7/10 on Rotten Tomatoes, continuing the show's excellent track record, which included 95% (7.7), 100% (8.5/10), and 98% (8.5/10) for the previous three seasons.

Metacritic has a similar score: the series has 89/100 – its best result to date and an improvement on the 78, 84 and 85 points of the previous seasons. This puts it above the scores of many of the most successful series this year, including “Baby Reindeer” (88/100), “Shogun” (85) and “X-Men '97” (82).

Here is a selection of reviews:

“We are now on the fourth season and there is no drop in quality. If anything, each season gets slightly better than the last. It is a pure pleasure to watch. There is not a wasted scene or a bad piece of dialogue. Every performance is perfectly timed.” – Anita Singh, The Telegraph

“We're now in the fourth series and it still seems like you can't go wrong… As always, though, it's Oldman you most want to see, wonderfully littering the screen and using his sleazy, disgusting looks as a weapon.” – Carol Midgley, Times

“No homework is required, and it's not difficult to get up to speed. You can just dive right into the latest adventure in this enormously entertaining show – and if you haven't already, you should.” – Alan Sepinwall, Rolling Stone

“One of the joys of Slow Horses is its ability to balance an inherently dramatic narrative with a dry sense of humor. That's still there, but Season 4 is more personal and therefore feels more consistent than its predecessors.” – Kaitlin Thomas, Paste Magazine

“Drum-tight, fat-free and hugely entertaining, Slow Horses remains by far the best thrill ride on television.” – Pat Stacey, Irish Independent

“The comedy is still wonderfully delivered and used so effectively that it doesn't overwhelm the more serious moments, and the heart of the show is perhaps more firmly on its sleeve than ever before. At the same time, the relationships between the characters become richer and more exciting with each appearance.” – James Hibbs, Radio Times

“Tackling a new case each season while maintaining the same format and framework is enormously satisfying when it’s done well.” – Nina Metz, Chicago Tribune

The first episode of the new season is now available on Apple TV+. For those who want to watch the series in one go, all six episodes will be available from October 9th.
