“Love Is Blind” star Shaina Hurley has announced that she was diagnosed with cancer in the third month of her pregnancy.

The 34-year-old TV personality, who is now mother to seven-month-old son Yiorgos with her husband Christos Lardakis, was diagnosed with stage two cervical cancer during a routine Pap smear with abnormal results.

Hurley refused a procedure that would have “most likely” resulted in a miscarriage and chemotherapy – despite doctors' wishes. She also refused to give birth to her son prematurely at 32 weeks, waiting until 37.5 weeks.

She told People: “I had no symptoms. But later the doctor called me and said the Pap smear results were abnormal and they needed to schedule me for a colposcopy.”

Doctors advised her to undergo a cold knife conization, which removes tissue from the cervix. Hurley said: “The problem is, I was pregnant. [The] The cervix is ​​holding the pregnancy. I was only three months pregnant and would have most likely lost the baby. I just couldn't risk it at that point.'

Doctors wanted to deliver baby Yiorgos at 32 weeks to see if the cancer had spread, but Hurley refused and “postponed” it until 37/5 weeks. Yiorgos was born healthy by cesarean section during this pregnancy.

The star said her decision to refuse treatment led to “fights” between her and her husband. She said: “He wanted the baby, but he also said, 'Shaina, I don't want to lose my wife. I want you to be here to raise the baby.'”

She said her “faith and strength of will” prevailed, and since she had suffered a miscarriage before the birth of her son, “nothing stood in my way” of continuing the pregnancy healthily.

Two weeks after giving birth in February, she suffered a mild stroke (TIA), which caused her face to droop and her hands to go numb.

She recovered without side effects, but underwent cold knife conization four weeks later – which failed because the cancer “was still there”.

Six weeks later, they tried again – and two weeks later, she was told she was cancer-free.

Hurley said she is now focused on motherhood, but has to go for check-ups every three months. She also plans to have more children in the future.

During the show, Hurley became engaged to cast member Kyle Abrams after her romantic relationship with Shayne Jansen did not work out.

Hurley later broke off her engagement to Abrams before leaving the series.

She and her now-husband dated for more than a year before marrying in a Chicago courthouse in July 2022.
