Australia sets world record with quick comeback against Scotland in 1st T20I

Edinburgh [Scotland]September 5 (ANI): Australia etched its name in the history books by setting a world record for most runs in the powerplay in its comprehensive seven-wicket win over Scotland in the first T20I.

For spectators at Grange Cricket Club and those watching at home, it was a goal-filled feast on Wednesday.

Australia scored 113 runs in the Powerplay, the most by any team in a T20I. Before the Baggy Greens staged a blitzkrieg that will be remembered for years to come, South Africa held the record for the highest score in the Powerplay.

The Proteas' effortless strokeplay in 2023 gave them a score of 102/0 against the West Indies in Centurion.

The record-breaking festival saw Australian opener Travis Head and debutant Jake Fraser-McGurk enter the match with a mindset to wreak destruction, chasing a modest total of 155.

McGurk's start to the T20Is turned into a nightmare after he was sent back to the dressing room by Brandon McMullen for a three-ball duck.

Head, who was hitting freely, went berserk and started messing with the boundaries. The Scottish players spent their time chasing the ball towards the boundary.

He hit 20 runs against McMullen, but the real attack fell to Jack Jarvis. Captain Mitchell Marsh hit three sixes and conceded 30 runs in the fifth over.

Before Head returned to the pavilion, he had already done irreparable damage with his rapid 80 runs from 25 deliveries. Five massive sixes and 12 boundaries summed up his attack on Scotland.

Josh Inglis added the finishing touches with his 27 from 13 deliveries and finished the game with a lead of more than ten overs.

Earlier in the innings, Scotland were forced to bat against Australia on the toss of a coin and performed decently with the bat. A collective batting effort from the hosts took their score to 154/9. (ANI)
