SHRC: SHRC orders investigation into accident involving student | News from Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has a probe in the incident in which a Student was thrown from a moving KSRTC bus after the rear window of the vehicle shattered. The Chairman of the Commission, Justice Alexander Thomas, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
The accident occurred on the evening of September 2 in front of the Digital University in Pallippuram on NH 66, which is currently under construction. P. Navaneeth Krishna, a student of Class 12 at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Pallippuram, was thrown out of the bus when it hit a pothole and shattered the rear window. The boy is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Commission had admitted the case for registration on its own initiative based on a news report.
The commission has sought a detailed investigation by a police officer of the rank of at least DYSP, appointed by the chief of police, Thiruvananthapuram rural district. The investigating officer should record the statements of the injured student and his classmates who were in the bus. The statements of the bus staff, medical certificate of the student's attending doctor and other relevant witness statements should be submitted. The complaint that there was no iron safety bar at the rear of the bus should also be investigated, the commission said.
The Chief Engineer of the National Highway Department of the Public Works Department should appoint an assistant engineer to investigate why the potholes on the road were not filled and road maintenance was not carried out in a timely manner.
The report has to be submitted within three weeks. The case will be heard at a meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on October 11, in which the investigating officers will have to be present in person.
