Sexual abuse: Man sexually abuses student and is arrested | News from Chennai

Chennai: A 42-year-old man was arrested under the Pocso Act for sexual assault on a Class X Girl when she was alone in her house in Ayanavaram. The man sneaked into her house and locked it from inside before sexually assaulting the girl on Tuesday. Hearing her screams, the neighbours gathered at the spot. The panicked man tried to escape by climbing over a 12-foot high wall and broke his leg in the process. Police arrested him.
The victim had returned home from school and was in her house when the defendant burst in. The defendant is a neighbor and knew that the girl's parents were at work.
The accused misbehaved with the girl and tried to sexually assault her, but the girl cried and raised the alarm, after which the man fled the scene. Other neighbors rushed to the house, inquired with the girl and stayed with her until her parents came home.
Her parents rushed to the house and lodged a police complaint. After investigation, the Ayanavaram AWPS (All Women Police Station) registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested the accused Sivakumar. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
