Northamptonshire vs Somerset forecast

Northamptonshire finished their T20 Blast North Group season strongly, winning four of their last five matches to book a place in the quarter-finals at home to defending champions Somerset.

All of those four wins came against teams who had also reached the knockout stages, with the Steelbacks beating Durham twice before beating league leaders Birmingham Bears and Lancashire.

Northants will be without highly experienced all-rounders Ravi Bopara and Sikandar Raza for their clash with Somerset, who have a record of just 8-15 to reach the final day.

These odds seem quite low considering that the Steelbacks have lost just one of their six group matches at the County Ground in Northampton.

However, Somerset are an experienced T20 side led by first-class captain Lewis Gregory and their bowlers proved too good for Surrey and Essex on final day last summer.

Ben Green took 3-25 in the semi-final against Surrey, dismissing the dangerous Sam Curran and Jamie Smith. Only his teammate Matt Henry surpassed his tally of 30 wickets in the 2023 tournament.

Green was Somerset's best bowler in the group stages this season, taking 21 wins in 13 matches, including 4-17 against Sussex in his last home game.

He took another seven wickets in three One-Day Cup matches last month and appears to be overpriced for the position as Somerset's leading wicket-taker at Wantage Road.
