British hiker found dead after flooding on Spanish island of Mallorca. Search operations looking for missing woman

BARCELONA, Spain – A British man was found dead while rescue workers searched for a woman of the same nationality after both were apparently swept away by a flash flood while hiking on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca, Spanish police said Wednesday.

Spain's Guardia Civil said both people were walking on a path that leads through a small ravine to the sea when the storm approached them on Tuesday.

The body of the 32-year-old man was found on Wednesday, while the search for the woman is still ongoing, police said.

Even worse weather was forecast for the island and parts of mainland Spain. Storm and rain warnings were issued on the Balearic Islands and large parts of the Spanish east coast.

Further thunderstorms over Barcelona forced the organizers of the America's Cup sailing event to postpone the race. This decision was made after lightning struck near a yacht on Tuesday and the race had to be abandoned.
