Police Grand-Ducale: Police target alcohol and drug drivers

According to a press release, on September 3rd and the night of September 4th, the police carried out several traffic checks in the Luxembourg area. Drugs and alcohol in road traffic played a central role in these checks.

On the evening of September 3, a police patrol in Pétange noticed a driver who had consumed an alcoholic drink while driving. “The driver was stopped, checked and subjected to a breathalyzer test, which was positive,” reported the Gand-Ducale police. In another check on the night of September 4 at around two o'clock, the police stopped a vehicle in Rue Kahlenberg heading towards Grevenmacher. “Here too, a breathalyzer test confirmed the suspicion of impaired driving.”

According to a statement, a vehicle with three passengers was stopped in the Avenue de l'Europe in Pétange at around 7 p.m., “which was suspected to be in a poor condition,” is how the police described the situation. During the check, officers discovered drugs and drug paraphernalia. The driver's drug test was positive, “and drugs were also found on the passengers.” The vehicle was prohibited from continuing its journey.

In the capital's district of Verlorenkost, a police patrol noticed the smell of cannabis on a driver who was not wearing a seatbelt. “The driver said he had consumed cannabis and had it with him,” the officers said. A small amount of the drug and consumption utensils were confiscated. Here, too, the driver was prohibited from continuing his journey.
