Police officer shot dead in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Peshawar: A policeman was shot dead by unknown gunmen on Wednesday in the troubled Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwest Pakistan.

The police officer, identified as Waqar Ahmed, was shot dead near his residence in Nawarkhel village of Lakki Marwat district bordering Afghanistan. He died on the spot and his body was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem.

The shooters managed to escape. A police force rushed to the crime scene, cordoned off the entire area and started a manhunt to arrest the accused.

On Tuesday, more than 60 terrorists from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan attacked a border checkpost in restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but were pushed back by security forces, killing two militants, officials said.

According to sources, the terrorists, linked to Muslim and Amjad groups of the Pakistani Taliban, attacked the Marghan checkpoint in Kurram district on the border with Afghanistan.

The terrorists, more than 60 in number, were said to be equipped with sophisticated weapons. A fierce firefight broke out between the security forces and the terrorists, in which two militants died.
