LANESBOROUGH, Massachusetts – A fatal motorcycle crash and other emergencies occurred in Berkshire County over Labor Day weekend.

A fatal collision occurred Sunday evening between a motorcycle traveling in the eastbound lane of Route 7 and Route 8 Connector Road in Lanesborough.

The Berkshire District Attorney's Criminal Investigation Division responded to a call for assistance from Lanesborough Police at approximately 12:45 a.m.

“The motorcycle appears to have crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with an SUV. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident,” wrote Julia Sabourin, head of operations at the public prosecutor's office.

“The investigation is still ongoing.”

Earlier that evening, around 10:50 p.m., firefighters from Dalton were called to a fire at 38 Deming Street and, with mutual aid from Hinsdale, Lanesborough, Cheshire and Pittsfield, had it under control in about ten minutes.

No civilian injuries or burns were reported, but a police officer was reportedly taken to Berkshire Medical Center with minor injuries after entering the apartment with the owner and rescuing the dogs.

According to the fire department, the road was closed until about 1:30 a.m. After that, a general renovation was completed and all equipment was cleared away.

Also over the weekend, a poodle mix named Charlotte escaped her owners in a car accident near the West Housatonic Street fire station. She has since been found with the help of the internet, according to social media posts.

MassLive reported that two people were seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on Route 2 on Sunday evening.

State police reported that the accident occurred at about 6:25 p.m. at the intersection with Avery Brook Road and the Shelburne Falls Fire Department responded and requested two rescue helicopters.

The news station reported that both were still in critical condition Sunday evening, according to state police, and that Route 2 was closed for more than four hours because of the accident.
