A boy (17) climbed over a barrier in the Bode Valley (Saxony-Anhalt) and fell into the depths. His companions had apparently tried to stop him from taking the risky action.

Fatal fall at the Hexentanzplatz in Thale (Harz)

Four young people set off on Sunday towards the Hexentanzplatz, a plateau high above the Bodetal in the Harz Mountains, reports the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung (MZ). They come from Bitterfeld and the neighboring Raguhn.

At around 3 p.m., the 17-year-old climbed over a railing to a viewing point, the police told RTL in response to a request. He is lying about 40 meters below the ground; witnesses saw the fall and alerted the rescue services. An emergency doctor had to abseil down to get to the young man. However, he could only confirm his death. A helicopter recovered the victim's body.
