Chiefs player Clyde Edwards-Helaire misses start of season due to mental health issues after traumatic incident | NFL News

Clyde Edwards-Helaire recently spoke publicly about his ongoing struggle with PTSDDue to the problems associated with this illness, he missed several important training sessions that were considered mandatory and urgently necessary before the start of the season.
The Kansas City Chiefsone of the professional American football teams that play at the highest level has decided to place its player Clyde Edwards-Helaire on the special list of the “Non-Football Illness List”. This listing means that he will not be allowed to participate in his team's first four games of the season due to health problems that have nothing to do with injuries sustained during football activities.
This PTSD had its roots in a deep traumatic incident which occurred on December 22, 2018, while he was attending Louisiana State University, better known as LSU. On that fateful day, Edwards-Helaire and a close friend found themselves in a life-threatening situation where they had to defend themselves against an attempted robbery that put them in danger. In a tragic turn of events, the person attempting to rob the two was shot and killed in this horrific encounter. The profound magnitude of this shocking event has left an indelible mark on Edwards-Helaire, significantly impacting his mental health and contributing to the ongoing difficulties he has with coping with these mental health issues.
Edwards-Helaire was a highly-rated player after the Kansas City Chiefs decided to draft him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The NFL Draft is an annual event where NFL teams are allowed to select players to add to their ranks. In his first two seasons with the team, he was the primary running back, often having to carry the ball and try to generate much-needed yards by running it down the field. However, in the 2022 season, another running back, Isiah Pacheco, took his place as the primary running back, and Edwards-Helaire has been used in a much smaller capacity since then.
Since Edwards-Helaire is unfortunately unable to play at the moment, the Kansas City Chiefs need more men to support the running back position. For this reason, they have two more competent running backs trying to help the team in these difficult times. One of the running backs is an experienced player named Samaje Perine, who recently joined the Chiefs after being released by his previous team, the Denver Broncos, and who brought his skills and expertise to the team. Another player helping the team win is a rookie named Carson Steele, who has successfully impressed the coaching staff during all the training sessions, thus earning a well-deserved spot among them.
