A tragic accident occurred in Gudiya Pada area of ​​Malad, Mumbai, in which a 27-year-old woman died after she was hit by an SUV. The incident took place around 10 pm on Tuesday night and the police have since arrested the driver of the vehicle, a merchant navy officer.

Details of the incident

The deceased was identified as Shahana Kaazi. According to the Malad police officer, Kaazi was on foot when she was hit by a Ford Endeavour. After the collision, the driver, Anup Sinha, rushed Kaazi to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

“After the accident, the accused himself took the woman to a nearby hospital where she died during treatment,” the police official told PTI.

Arrest of the driver and confiscation of the vehicle

Anup Sinha, the 31-year-old driver of the SUV, was booked under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested. The police also seized his vehicle for further investigation. Sinha, who reportedly has an office in Andheri, was on vacation at the time of the accident.

Examination and blood test

Authorities have taken a blood sample from Sinha to determine whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol. The results of this test will be crucial in determining whether intoxication played a role in the accident.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the accident. Sinha's arrest and the seizure of his vehicle mark the beginning of the legal proceedings in the case, which will establish all the details of the incident.
