Asbach town sign stolen for the eighth time in 2024

Once again, a sign for the Petershausen district of Asbach has disappeared. It has been a popular target for years. The police have a suspicion as to the motive.

Petershausen (dpa/lby) – The town sign of the Petershausen district of Asbach has been stolen eight times this year. In five cases, suspect investigations were carried out, the police said. All of them were teenagers or young adults. They were presumably after the sign because it had the same name as a brand of spirits, it was said. Most recently, a town sign on Dorfstrasse was stolen on the night of Monday – including the holder. The police are looking for witnesses.

According to Petershausen's mayor Marcel Fath (Free Voters) on Tuesday, replacing a town sign costs around 300 euros. He did not comment on further details when asked by dpa.

The signs have been popular for years. In the summer of 2021, Vater reported to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” that there was a fixed item in the municipal budget for the regular purchase of new signs in the town in the Dachau district. There had already been various attempts to put a stop to the thieves: “We have already tried using special screws, welding, hammering, riveting, but nothing seems to help,” the mayor said at the time.
