Court admits confidential statement of complainant, VK Prakash, sexual assault case, Kollam, Malayalam director, Hema Committee, confidential statement

Kollam: The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kollam has granted permission to file a confidential statement on a complaint by a young writer that she was sexually harassed by Malayalam director VK Prakash in a hotel in Kollam.

The Supreme Court heard the petition and directed the Kollam District Magistrate, First Class (1st Class), Nikita Prasad to record the statement of the complainant. After receiving summons from the court, the complainant will come to Kollam in the next few days to give his statement. The statement will be recorded in the Magistrate's office.

Meanwhile, police confirmed that Prakash and the complainant stayed in adjacent rooms on the fourth floor of the hotel on the same day. The complainant stayed in another room near the room where Prakash stayed on the fourth floor of the hotel.

Prakash was accused of sexually harassing the complainant on April 4, 2022. The police team led by Pallithottam SHO B Shafiq collected the documents from the hotel, including bills paid by Prakash. The rent for one room was paid through bank transfer and for the other room directly in cash.

Many personalities from the Malayalam cinema industry are currently facing sexual allegations following the release of the Hema Committee report which highlighted the harsh working atmosphere faced by women in the industry.
