Coronation Street star previews Paul's final scene before his tragic death

Coronation Street Star Peter Ash has shared a preview of his character Paul Foreman's final scene, calling it “beautiful.”

It was recently announced that Paul's final episode will air on September 9th, which will see the character tragically die from the effects of a progressive MND (Motor Neurone Disease).

Speaking at a recent soap press event about Paul's emotional final scene, Ash said: “It was a beautiful scene. It was quite difficult not to get emotional during that scene.”

He continued: “[The other cast members] say these beautiful goodbyes and I have to pretend I don't hear them.

“And especially when it’s over, you try not to breathe at all, which becomes a bit difficult after a while!

“But the scene in general was just a beautiful ending. Of course I won't give anything away beyond that, but it was great to have all my favorites in my last scene.”

The soap star said of his role in the MND storyline: “I have never been involved in anything like this before, such a themed story.

“But that's what makes it special. You know you're raising awareness for a great cause and doing something good. In my opinion, that's a job well done.”

Ash thanked further Corrie Producers Ian and Verity MacLeod thanked him for trusting the plot, saying: “I'm just really grateful that I was trusted with the story and that they allowed me to unfold it at its own pace. It never felt like it was rushed through.”

“I was always quite surprised when I had a meeting with Iain and he said, 'Okay, this is what's happening in the next six months'.

“And I thought I was going to be gone soon. I think they covered a lot of great themes in the storyline.”

Coronation Street will be broadcast on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streamed on ITVX.
