Mattress Mack is back! Jim McInvale has returned to work after a health scare over the weekend

HOUSTON – The news that local icon Jim “Mattress Mack” McInvale was in the hospital sent shockwaves throughout Houston over the weekend.

But after only three days in the hospital, Mack is back!

KPRC 2's Faith Braverman spoke briefly with Mattress Mack on the phone and reported on his recovery progress at Galley Furniture.

“I'm doing pretty well, I'm still cognitively foggy, but I guess I've always been a little bit,” he joked. “But I appreciate all of you praying for me.”

McInvale said the discomfort began Friday night when his leg started to give him pain. On Saturday morning, he drove to work but missed his exit for the first time in 43 years.

“I arrived at St. Luke's on Saturday afternoon and came out late on Monday evening,” he said.

Doctors confirmed the rash on his leg was due to cellulitis, a common bacterial infection. He's still trying to figure out what caused his cognitive issues, but said he's so grateful for all the amazing clients and their well wishes.

And as always, he also wanted to remind his customers about his extended Labor Day sale and encourage them to head to Gallery Furniture. He also shared some words of wisdom that resonate with him in light of his health struggles.

“Remember: Hard times pass, but tough people do!” he said.
