Police search for stranger after woman was sexually assaulted by river in Maidstone

A police manhunt is underway after an unknown man allegedly sexually assaulted a woman by a river.

Detectives are investigating the suspected attack last night (September 2) near the Lockmeadow leisure complex in Maidstone.

She was reportedly sitting near the River Medway when she was approached by an unknown man.

He is said to have tried to engage her in unwanted conversations before attacking her over a long period of time.

The incident is said to have occurred between 7 p.m. and midnight.

The suspect fled towards the river bank and Millennium Bridge, police said.

He is described as white, about 5'3″ tall, with dark blonde hair. He was slim and clean-shaven and was wearing a white T-shirt and sneakers.

The police are trying to clarify all the circumstances. This includes a forensic analysis of the crime scene and the review of video surveillance options.

Anyone with information that could be useful to the investigation is asked to come forward.

Motorists with dashcams who may have been near the affected area, as well as businesses and residents with doorbell cameras or video surveillance, are also asked to search for important footage.
