Mike Norvell could be fired because of this poor start to 2024

Good morning winners! Welcome back to Morning Win. I hope you had a fantastic holiday weekend.

This one goes out to you, Florida State fans. I know the last few weeks – no, actually – the last few months have been a nightmare. But, you know, it gets better – no. Actually. I'm not telling you anything I don't know to be true.

MORE ABOUT MIKE NORVELL: Fans make fun of FSU and Norvell after BC loss

The truth is that it's been all downhill since Jordan Travis tore his ACL last year before the most crucial part of FSU's season. The ugly win in the ACC Championship, the loss in the College Football Playoff, and now this. Whatever that is.

It's not just that Norvell's Florida State team lost two games – it lost two games it shouldn't have lost. The first one against Georgia Tech was bad, but at least it was bearable. That game was in Ireland against a Tech team that should be pretty solid.

But that loss to Boston College? Yo. Come on. It wasn't even close.

DJ Uiagalelei looks like he doesn't know this offense. FSU's defense should be elite up front, but it's as weak as Charmin. Boston College and Georgia Tech have combined for 453 yards rushing against this team in two weeks.

This shouldn't happen. A fan now has to literally eat shit because this team was so outrageously bad. He has to eat SHIT. And everyone knows it!

How do you explain that to the proponents? If there's one thing disproportionately wealthy people don't like, it's being embarrassed. And this is embarrassing.

For this reason, it will be quite difficult for Mike Norvell to recover from this.

Norvell had an incredible year last year that was derailed by the worst injury at the worst time. But that's college football. He's not going to get any mercy.

I'm not saying he'll get fired today or tomorrow. Maybe he won't get fired in a month. But this team should be a top-10 team this season. They should have a shot at the CFP playoffs. Right now, it looks like this team would be lucky if they make it to the Pop-Tart Bowl.

That's unacceptable. And if that happens, Norvell's days as FSU's head coach are probably numbered.

50/50

Shohei Ohtani is close to making history. The Dodgers star stole bases 45 and 46 on Monday night against the Diamondbacks.

He's four stolen bases and six home runs short of the first 50-50 season in MLB history. People. Major League Baseball has technically been around since 1876, when the National League was formed. It's so rare that someone accomplishes something that's never been done before in this league. There's always a “Tungsten Arm” O'Doyle sitting on every record since the league's inception.

Not this time. This would be the first time something like this has happened. Ohtani has 24 games left to do it.

Let's see.

The first surprises at the US Open followed over the weekend. On Friday, Carlos Alcaraz was surprisingly eliminated in the second round after losing to Botic van de Zandschulp.

Two other stars also dropped out of the tournament.

Novak Djokovic lost to Alexei Popyrin on Friday after winning just one set against the 28th-ranked player in the ATP rankings.

Coco Gauff also exited the tournament on Sunday after losing to WTA No. 13 Emma Navarro. Gauff's loss means Serena Williams remains the only woman to defend her US Open title since 2014.

There are still names to keep an eye on. Iga Swiatek (No. 1) is still the best in the class on the women's side and Aryna Sabalenka (No. 2) is not far behind. This is also a chance for Navarro to continue to make a name for herself after losing in the first round of the US Open last year.

In the men's competition, Frances Tiafoe just reached the quarterfinals for the third year in a row. Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick and Pete Sampras are the only other American men to have reached the quarterfinals of the US Open at least three times since 2000, according to Al Jazeera.

Some of the stars may not be there, but it will still be an interesting ending. Make sure you attend.
