MADRID (Reuters) – Valencia striker Rafa Mir has been arrested by Spain's Guardia Civil over alleged sexual abuse, the club said on Tuesday.

A Guardia Civil spokesman confirmed that a LaLiga player had been arrested in Valencia for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman, but did not reveal his name.

Valencia said in a statement that they were aware of the arrest and would cooperate with the judiciary. Representatives of Mir were not immediately available for comment.

Mir, 27, has also played for Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sevilla, who loaned him to his boyhood club Valencia.

Radio station Cadena Ser, which first reported the news, said Mir did not show up for training with his team on Tuesday.

Another person suspected of being involved in the attack was also arrested, it was said.
