Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 5 receives major update to Wear OS 4 with backup function, workouts and many new features

Mobvoi announced in a press release that the rollout of Wear OS 4 for the TicWatch Pro 5 (approx. 215 euros on Amazon) and the TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro has begun. As usual, it will probably take a few days before the operating system update is available for download to all users of the smartwatch. Wear OS 4 was originally released in July 2023, and smartwatches such as the Google Pixel Watch 3 or the Samsung Galaxy Watch7 already run Wear OS 5.

The update is worth it, though, because Wear OS 4 introduces a number of significant innovations, led by a backup function. This allows you to transfer all data from an old smartwatch to a new one. Phone Transfer, on the other hand, makes it possible to pair the smartwatch with another smartphone without having to reset it to factory settings first. The update is intended to improve stability and update the security patch to the September 2024 version.

The update also brings a number of TicWatch-specific improvements, including 25 new sport modes, including CrossFit and Hiking, improved automatic cycling detection, and more precise data collection during the automatic detection period before a workout mode is started. Many workouts are being redesigned so that GPS data is collected when riding a horse, for example. Users can now collect their favorite workouts in a list so they are more quickly accessible.

The workout view is being redesigned to show important parameters larger, while apps like Strava can now access the economical always-on display. Calories burned should be calculated more precisely. The apps TicPulse, TicOxygen, TicZen and TicSleep are being integrated into the improved TicHealth app. Finally, Mobvoi now allows the function of the side button to be customized to open any app.
