Pulsar Content Boards “A Survivor's Tale”, the harrowing true story of French noblewoman Marguerite de la Rocque

Pulsar Content has chosen “A Survivor's Tale”, produced by KG Prods. (“Custody”), the film founded by Costa Gavras and Michèle Ray-Gavras. The film's main actor is Salomé Dewaels, star of Xavier Giannoli's film “Lost Illusions”, which competed in Venice.

Directed by Belgian filmmaker Micha Wald, A Survivor's Tale is based on the true story of Marguerite de la Rocque, a young noblewoman abandoned in the wilds of Canada in the 16th century. Convicted of carrying a child born from a violent attack, she is abandoned with her rapist and maid on a deserted island near Newfoundland.

Marguerite must survive two harrowing years on the “Island of Demons,” where she endures hunger and relentless cold. As she struggles to keep herself and her unborn child alive, Marguerite's journey becomes one of profound transformation and emancipation. The film, originally titled “L'île de la Demoiselle,” also stars up-and-coming French actor Louis Peres (“For the Night Will Come”) in the lead role.

Alexandre Gavras of KG Prods. is producing the film together with Stenola Prods. The two companies have already worked together on Joachim Lafosse's “The Restless”. Pulsar will start international distribution in Toronto.

“We hope that the true story of Marguerite de la Roque's survival and coming of age on this barren, deserted island serves as an example to women of all ages of the power of the human will,” KG Prods. said in a statement.

Wald made his film debut with “In the Arms of My Enemy,” which premiered at Critics Week in Cannes.

“'A Survivor's Tale' is a feminist and epic historical film with strong characters and we are confident it will delight international audiences,” said Pulsar, who pointed out that the film tells a “true story that resonates so strongly in our times.”

Stenola said that “survival films are often embodied by male characters, but Micha Wald takes the opportunity to move us deeply with Marguerite's epic journey.”

Principal photography will begin in Brittany in October and the film is scheduled to be completed in mid-2025. The Jokers films will be released in France.
