Jammu, Sept 3 (PTI) – A drill lasting over half an hour was conducted at Jammu Tawi railway station on Tuesday to test the alertness of the staff and coordination among various agencies in dealing with emergency situations, officials said.

The joint exercise was conducted by the railways in close coordination with teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Government Railway Police from 11.08 am to 11.40 am, Prateek Srivastava, Divisional Transportation Manager (DTM), JAT, told PTI.

Srivastava said the exercise tested the operational readiness of all organizations involved in the relief and rescue operations, with a focus on coordination and communication among rescue teams in responding to a train accident.

An accident scene was prepared at the freight yard and the relevant departments and authorities were mobilized to clear the area and evacuate the victims, while at the same time a technical team worked on repairing and restoring the track.

“This joint exercise was conducted to test the alertness of the personnel and their response in case of any accident. We are on high alert to deal with any situation,” said Divisional Regional Officer Rajiv Singh Slaria.

Parveen Singh, deputy commandant of NDRF's 13th Battalion, said such exercises were imperative to prepare for real-time scenarios.
