Haryana Assembly elections: Priority is to defeat the BJP: Sanjay Singh on the exchange of views between AAP and Congress in Haryana

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh welcomed reports that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is interested in an alliance with the AAP ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana. The AAP leader said the main aim is to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“I welcome this statement by Rahul Gandhi. Our priority is to defeat the BJP,” said the AAP MP, signalling his willingness to explore a possible alliance with the Congress party.

He added that the official decision on the alliance will be taken by AAP National Chief Arvind Kejriwal. The decision will be based on the inputs of Sandeep Pathak, AAP Haryana chief, and Sushil Gupta, AAP Haryana president.

The statement comes at a time when opposition parties are considering various strategies to consolidate their positions and challenge the BJP's dominance in several states. An alliance between AAP and Congress could significantly affect the political landscape in Haryana, where both parties are trying to increase their influence.

Sources told India Today TV on Monday that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is interested in an alliance between his party and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana.

According to sources, Rahul Gandhi, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, sought the opinion of Haryana Congress leaders on a possible alliance with the AAP during the party's Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting on Monday.

The Congress and the AAP had jointly contested the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana, Gujarat, Goa, Delhi and Chandigarh.

Last month, senior Congress MP Kumari Selja, in an interview with news agency PTI, ruled out the possibility of an alliance with the AAP for the Haryana legislative assembly elections, saying her party was a strong player in the state and would go alone in the polls.

In Haryana, which has 90 seats in the legislative assembly, elections will be held on October 5. The results will be announced on October 8.
