Brooklyn man charged with negligent homicide after fatal bicycle accident

A 40-year-old Brooklyn driver is charged with vehicular manslaughter and other offenses after he struck and killed a bicyclist while under the influence of alcohol in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Sunday, according to police. Can Nomer was driving a Volkswagen Tiguan mid-morning when he crashed into two parked vehicles near Union Avenue and South Lynch Street, then struck 46-year-old Luis Mendez, who was riding a bicycle. Nomer's vehicle continued on, striking two more vehicles. Mendez, who also lived in Brooklyn, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Click here to read more on gothamist.com.
