Eight worshippers die, ten injured when truck hits stationary vehicle in Haryana – The Week

Chandigarh, Sept 3 (PTI) – Eight people were killed and 10 others injured when a truck rammed a stationary vehicle carrying devotees in Haryana's Jind district, police said on Tuesday.
The accident occurred after midnight in Bidharana village on the Hisar-Chandigarh national highway when devotees were travelling from Kurukshetra district to a temple in Gogamedi in Rajasthan.
The truck, with a Rajasthan registration plate, was loaded with logs when it rammed the stationary vehicle.
Kuldeep, SHO of Sadar Narwana police station, said, “The truck rammed the pickup truck in which the group of devotees was travelling to Gogamedi. When the incident occurred, the devotees had stopped for a moment and their vehicle was stationary.”
“Eight people, including two women and a 15-year-old boy, died and 10 were injured in the incident,” he told PTI.
The police official said the injured were taken to hospitals in Narwana in Jind and later referred to Agroha in Hisar. The injured are out of danger, he added.
A case has been registered and the truck has been confiscated, police said.
A relative of an injured person who reached Narwana Civil Hospital after the accident said the truck hit the vehicle from behind. Many of the dead and injured were relatives, he said.
