Man charged with attempted murder

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – A Knox County man is behind bars after police say he fired multiple shots at a home.

Early Monday morning, officers were dispatched to a home near Wagers Road where they found a man with a gunshot wound.

After an investigation, officers determined that 26-year-old Joseph Collett of Gray approached the home, shot a dog and forced his way into the victim's home.

According to police, Collett then fired several shots into the house, hitting the man and nearly killing a four-year-old.

The victim was treated on site by first responders.

Police arrested Joseph Collett and took him to the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Collett is charged with attempted murder, first-degree burglary, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree cruelty to animals.
