“This is bad for our industry.” George Clooney responded to rumors about his and Brad Pitt’s alleged salaries for Wolf’s

A-list Hollywood actors make a lot of money. This isn't exactly news, especially given the huge deal Robert Downey Jr. reportedly recently signed to return to the MCU. However, most big stars don't get quite as much money for a single film as George Clooney and Brad Pitt reportedly made for the recent Apple TV+ film. Wolves.

A New York Times article claimed that Pitt and Clooney each received $35 million for their roles in the film, which will be released in 2024. Of course, that's a pretty big paycheck even for major movie stars, but now Clooney is contradicting the report, saying it's inaccurate.

What George Clooney says about his wolf salary

George Clooney said he and Brad Pitt actually earned less from the film than originally agreed because the couple returned part of their fee after it was decided Wolves would not be released in theaters as originally planned. The film would not have made the money it could have made in theaters if it had subsequently been resold via VOD and streaming. So something had to be cut, and the actor explained that it was their salary.

Where George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s money usually comes from

Clooney said he wanted to address the $35 million salary figure because he didn't want it to become the “standard.” I'm not surprised. There is something of a competition between actors when it comes to film earnings, and I would imagine other A-list stars think Clooney and Pitt make $35 million per film and want just as much themselves. If not more!

While it's not entirely uncommon for some stars to earn up to $20 million per film, it's become an increasingly popular choice for many to forgo part of their salary up front in exchange for a percentage of the box office. This has helped films keep their budgets under control by allowing them to save several million up front, and if a film is successful, it can lead to big earnings later on. Only a fraction of that was his actual salary.

Obviously with Wolves Unless a film gets a major theatrical release, such a deal isn't possible. It wouldn't have been too surprising if Clooney and Pitt's salaries had increased, not decreased, as a result. When films slated for theatrical release ended up streaming during the pandemic, studios reportedly had to sign new contracts for the stars who were counting on those extra dollars. Scarlett Johansson was famously involved in a legal battle over this very concept.

Whatever Pitt and Clooney made of Wolf, wWe probably don’t have to worry about either of them going bankrupt anytime soon. In fact, the news that Wolves would not be released in cinemas, came along with the news that a Wolves The sequel is already in development. They have no shortage of work.

It may have all been part of a complicated financial deal designed to help everyone involved make the money they wanted. If the first film does well – and critics are praising Clooney and Pitt in the new film so far – then perhaps the sequel could be released and Pitt and Clooney could end up making money. But $35 million?
