Two people were killed and several injured when a man drove a vehicle into the patio of the Park Tavern in St. Louis Park on Sunday evening, September 1.

The Park Tavern posted a link to a fundraiser for the family of Kristina Folkerts, who died in the crash.

“Kristina was a loving mother of three little girls and a friend to many in the community,” the post said. “We are deeply saddened and thank you for your support during this difficult time.”

Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park confirmed that one of its employees died in the crash, but the deceased's name was not released.

“We mourn the loss of a beloved and valued colleague and friend to many here at Methodist Hospital and HealthPartners,” the hospital said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with our colleague's family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Out of respect for the family, we are not releasing any further information at this time.”

The hospital said four Methodist Hospital nurses were among those injured on Sunday.

“In the coming days, we will focus on supporting our colleagues and the families of those affected by this tragedy. The close relationships our colleagues have with one another are part of what makes Methodist a special place,” the statement said.

St. Louis Park Police said they were called to Park Tavern shortly after 8 p.m. They found surveillance footage showing someone driving into the Park Tavern parking lot, attempting to park and then driving onto the outdoor patio.

The Park Tavern was closed on Monday. The restaurant and bar posted on social media: “Following the tragic incident on our patio Sunday evening, the Park Tavern will remain closed until further notice as we support and care for our employees and neighbors. Thank you for your understanding and kindness during this incredibly difficult time.”

Hennepin County Jail records show a 56-year-old man arrested by St. Louis Park police is in custody on a charge of involuntary manslaughter. MPR News was unable to reach the Hennepin County District Attorney's Office for information on possible charges.

Police say the incident is still under investigation.

St. Louis Park is a suburb just west of Minneapolis.
