Weather forecast for California: September heatwave leaves Southern California groaning

There are only a few weeks left until the official start of fall, but September is already starting off scorching hot in Southern California, with a brutal heat wave expected to continue for the next few days.

The peak of the heat wave is expected Wednesday through Friday, with forecast highs reaching over 80 degrees on the coast, over 85 degrees in several inland communities, and triple digits in the valleys, foothills, and Inland Empire.

In view of the upcoming heat wave, the National Weather Service (NWS) plans to issue a heat warning for most of the Southland areas.

During the heat wave, the NWS reminds people that homeless people, the elderly and children are most at risk for heat illness.

Weather warnings

Warning of excessive heat

A heat advisory for extreme heat will go into effect in the Inland Empire from 11 a.m. Wednesday to 9 p.m. Friday as temperatures are expected to return to triple digits. Residents are asked to stay indoors with air conditioning, stay hydrated and limit their time outdoors.

The same warning also applies to many Southern California communities in Los Angeles, Ventura and Orange counties, including Beverly Hills, Lancaster, Pyramid Lake, Valencia, Los Angeles, Compton, Culver City, East LA, Glendale, Hollywood, Simi Valley, Okai, Pomona, Pasadena and areas along the Angeles Crest Highway.

This also applies to inland areas of Orange County, including Anaheim, Santa Ana, Mission Viejo, Fullerton, Orange, Irvine and Garden Grove.

How long will the heat wave last?

The heat wave is expected to continue for the next few days.
