Johnny Gaudreau's sister posted a touching tribute to her brothers, who were hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver just one day before their wedding. Katie Gaudreau described Johnny (31) and Matt (29) as “the absolute best big brothers a little girl could ask for” in a heartfelt tribute on Instagram on Monday morning.

The brothers were struck by a car while riding their bikes in Oldmans Township, Salem County, just before 8:30 p.m. Thursday night. Both brothers were scheduled to serve as best men at their sister's wedding on Friday afternoon, but the wedding was reportedly canceled following the tragic incident.

Katie wrote: “To know these two was to love them. I have no words to express the bond my family had. The whole world knows that without Matty there would have been no John and without John there would have been no Matty.”

“The absolute best big brothers a little girl could ask for. This will never be a goodbye post because I will never stop saying your names and honoring you both.

“I will take the best possible care of Mom, Dad, Kristen, Mer, Madeline and your babies.”

Johnny not only had the role of best man, but also a very special role at the wedding: He was supposed to see his almost two-year-old daughter Noa walk down the aisle as a flower girl.

Johnny's six-month-old son was supposed to be the ring bearer and his wife Meredith was supposed to be Katie's maid of honor. Instead of sharing the happiest day of her life with her brothers, Katie and her family are now mourning their tragic loss.

The brothers were struck and killed by another vehicle on Pennsville Auburn Road near Stumpy Lane.

Killed by drunk driver

The driver, 43-year-old Sean M. Higgins of Woodstown, New Jersey, is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He is charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter and is being held without bail.

Meredith described Johnny as “the best father… and the best partner in navigating parenthood together.”

“John never missed a single appointment. He was the best at rocking the baby to sleep and was the apple of Noa's eye. I love how much she looks like him.”

She wrote that it was a comfort to her to know that the brothers “are together in heaven, of course,” noting that the couple were “always side by side… hip to hip.”

“Absolutely best friends and biggest fans of each other, despite having completely opposite personalities.

“I don't think John could live a day without you, so it comforts me to know that of course you are together in heaven.”

Matthew leaves behind his wife Madeline, whom he married just over three years ago. To add to the tragedy, it was revealed that Madeline is currently expecting her first child.

Meredith wrote: “Matty, thank you for loving our babies like your own and for being such an amazing uncle and godfather.

“I can't wait to return the honor when I become Tripp's aunt. Please continue to take care of John like you always have. I have Madeline and Tripp.”
