Katie Gaudreau, the sister of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, speaks out

Katie Gaudreau has spoken out publicly for the first time since her older brothers, NHL players Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Gaudreau, were killed in a bicycle accident on August 29, the day before their wedding.

In a September 2 Instagram post, Katie Gaudreau shared a series of photos of herself with her brothers, as well as various family members and her fiancé Devin Joyce.

The first photo in the slideshow is a family photo of siblings Kristen, Katie, Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau and their parents Guy and Jane Gaudreau.

“To know these two was to love them. I don't have the words to express the bond my family had. The whole world knows that without Matty there would have been no John and without John there would have been no Matty. The absolute best big brothers a little girl could ask for. This will not be a goodbye post because I will never stop saying your names and honoring you both. I will take the best care of Mommy, Daddy, Kristen, Mer, Madeline and your babies,” Katie Gaudreau wrote in her caption.

Johnny Gaudreau, 31, and Matthew Gaudreau, 29, were killed when they were struck by a suspected drunk driver while riding bicycles in their New Jersey hometown, New Jersey State Police said, according to NBC Philadelphia.

According to the couple's wedding website on The Knot, they were scheduled to be groomsmen at their sister's wedding, which was to take place the next day in Philadelphia.

Both brothers played for the Boston College hockey team. Johnny Gaudreau was drafted by the Calgary Flames and finished his 11-year NHL career with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Matthew Gaudreau played professional hockey for five years, according to the United States Hockey League.

Matthew Gaudreau's wife, Madeline Gaudreau, is expecting their first child, a boy named Tripp, according to a GoFundMe campaign launched after the accident.

Johnny Gaudreau has two children with his wife Meredith Gaudreau. On August 31, she posted an obituary for her husband and brother-in-law.

“Thank you for the best years of my life. Even though I lost you, I'm still the luckiest girl in the world because I was your son. I love you so much. You were perfect. Some days it felt too good to be true. I love everything about you. You are mine forever and I can't wait to be with you again. I love you so much forever and ever,” Meredith Gaudreau wrote about her husband.
