(FOREST PARK, Illinois) – Four people were killed in a shooting on a Chicago Transit Authority train in Forest Park, Illinois, early Monday morning, officials said.

Forest Park police received a 911 call around 5:30 a.m. local time about three people shot on a westbound train at the CTA Blue Line station in Forest Park, just west of Chicago, a police statement said.

Authorities cleared the station and found four victims. Three of them were pronounced dead at the scene and the fourth was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he died.

Forest Park police and CTA security personnel used video surveillance to identify the perpetrator. Chicago police then found a suspect matching the description on a CTA Pink Line train. The suspect was arrested and a firearm was recovered, Forest Park police said.

According to Forest Park officials, the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident with no immediate additional threat to the community.

In a statement, the CTA called the incident a “heinous and egregious act of violence” that “should never have happened, especially not on a public transit train.”

“As soon as the incident was reported, the CTA immediately committed resources to assist Forest Park Police in their investigation into this matter. This included reviewing all possible surveillance camera footage, which proved vital in assisting local law enforcement,” the statement said.

The CTA praised the Forest Park and Chicago police departments for their quick response and coordination.

CTA said it will continue to work with local law enforcement as part of the ongoing investigation.
