Tragic incident in Tripura: College student commits suicide after stabbing classmate

In a tragic incident in Tripura, a college student committed suicide after stabbing a 9th grade girl to death for rejecting his marriage proposal, a senior police official said.

The victim, Tania Baruah, was on her way to private classes in Kanchanpur, North Tripura district, when the attack took place at around 8.30 am. According to police, the attacker, Kartik Nath (21), blocked her path and stabbed her multiple times.

Baruah bled profusely and fell to the ground. Nath then slit his throat. Both were rushed to Kanchanpur Sub-Divisional Hospital where Baruah was declared dead. Nath was taken to Dharmanagar for further treatment but succumbed to his injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest that Nath's actions were motivated by rejection of his romantic advances.
