Six-year-old girl dies after collision with car

Central Hastings OPP say a child has died after being hit by a car in Tweed.

Police, Tweed Fire Department and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics were called to Jamieson Street West shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

An off-duty nurse and others attempted to save the six-year-old girl's life, but after being taken to the hospital, the girl was pronounced dead.

The name of the victim is not disclosed.

Both the vehicle and the driver remained on site.

An investigation is currently underway involving members of the Central Hastings OPP Operations and Crime Unit, an OPP accident reconstruction specialist, technical accident investigators and the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner.
