State police investigate false reports of shooting at New York State Fair

State police are investigating reports of a possible shooting at the New York State Fair on September 1, 2024, which led to an early closure of the fairgrounds.

At 8:38 p.m., state police received a call reporting possible gunfire between the Midway and the concert site in Suburban Park. Just three minutes later, a second call came in reporting possible gunfire near the restaurant building. Officers quickly rushed to both locations but found no evidence of gunfire or injuries.

After consultation with the trade fair representatives, the authorities decided to close the fair early as a precautionary measure. The state police are continuing to investigate the false reports that led to the disruption.

To ensure the safety of all trade fair visitors, the incident remains under investigation.
