Driver released after arrest in connection with crash that left one teenager dead and two others hospitalized

A man arrested in connection with a car crash in Perthshire that killed a teenager has been released from custody.

At around 2.50am on Sunday, emergency services were called to an accident involving a blue Ford Fiesta on the B9099 Luncarty to Stanley, near the Gowrie Farm junction.

The passenger, a 19-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The driver, a 21-year-old man, and the rear passenger, a 19-year-old woman, were taken to Ninewells Hospital with serious injuries.

Police confirmed that the driver was arrested for traffic offences but has since been released pending investigation.

The road was closed for accident investigation and reopened at around 1:15 p.m.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to come forward.

Sergeant Steve Livesey said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased woman and those injured.

“Our investigations to clarify the exact circumstances are ongoing and anyone who can help is asked to contact us.

“If you were driving near the area at the time and have a dashcam that could assist, please contact officers.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call Police Scotland on 101quoting incident number 0617 of Sunday, September 1, 2024.”
