Mother loses fight for life after stabbing at Notting Hill Carnival – News from South London

It has been confirmed that 32-year-old Cher Maximen – a woman who was stabbed to death at the Notting Hill Carnival, which she attended with her child – has tragically died.

On Sunday 25 August, shortly before 6pm, officers on duty in Golborne Road as part of the carnival operation were alerted to a woman who had been stabbed.

Officers provided emergency medical care until paramedics arrived. Cher was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, she died on Saturday morning.

On Tuesday morning last week they arrested 20-year-old Shakiel Thibou of Masbro Road in Shepherd's Bush.

He was charged with attempted murder and appeared before Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday 25 September.

In light of Cher's death, the crime is being investigated jointly with the public prosecutor's office.

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila of the Metropolitan Police's Homicide Squad, who is leading the investigation, said: “My thoughts are with Cher's loved ones as they come to terms with this terrible loss.

“They are supported by specialist officials and we will ensure that this support continues.

“Cher was at the fair with her young child. We have been in close contact with our partners in local authorities and Cher's family since shortly after this incident to ensure the child is safe and cared for.”

Commander Charmain Brenyah, the Met's Carnival operations spokesman, said: “The news of Cher's tragic death is devastating for her family, the wider community and everyone involved in running the Notting Hill Carnival.

“Carnival is about bringing people together for a positive celebration. The fact that it ended with the tragic loss of life and other serious acts of violence will sadden everyone involved.”
