Jammu: Soldier seriously injured in suspected terrorist attack on army camp

A soldier was seriously injured on Monday when suspected terrorists opened fire on a guard post at an army camp near Jammu, officials said. The incident took place at around 10:50 am at the Sunjawan military station on the outskirts of the city.

According to a defense spokesman, several shots were fired at the camp, injuring the soldier. A large-scale search operation is currently underway to locate and neutralize the attackers. Further details on the attackers are still being collected.

Officials had previously said there was a brief exchange of fire when suspected terrorists fired several shots at one of the army posts guarding one of the largest security camps in the winter capital.

The shots caused panic and the local police's Special Operations Group (SOG) rushed to the scene to conduct a large-scale manhunt together with the army to hunt down the fleeing terrorists.

The search operation is currently underway, but so far there has been no contact with the terrorists, officials said.

In early February 2018, terrorists attacked the Sunjawan military camp, killing six soldiers, one civilian and three terrorists.
