Macs with M4: Sales start in November

Like last year, Apple will probably not launch new Macs until November. As an informed source told Macrumors over the weekend, it will be similar to last year. Back then, Apple showed M3 models of MacBook Pro and iMac on October 30th during the “Scary Fast” event and then started selling them on November 7th. “This year, a similar sequence of events could occur,” the report said.

First, however, Apple will introduce four new iPhone models on September 9. There will also be two revised Apple Watch series (Series 10 and Ultra 3) and new AirPods. Apple likes to use October to introduce new Macs and iPads, and for the latter, they are waiting for a new mini model. If the device is released in November, there would at least be some time left for the Christmas business. All new models are to be equipped with the M4 SoC – which is currently only found in the iPad Pro M4.

Apple could also simply announce the new computer models via press release. However, the switch to the new chips is actually a reason for an event. The company could also possibly show new functions as part of Apple Intelligence. macOS 15 should be available before October and would not need to be announced separately at such an event.

At least four new M4 Macs are expected in October. They are said to be two notebooks and two desktops. There could be two new MacBook Pro basic models with 14 and 16 inches, a 24-inch iMac M4 and a redesigned Mac mini, which is said to be smaller than the current – and completely outdated in terms of form factor – model.

However, new Mac Studio and Mac Pro models as well as a MacBook Air M4 are not expected until next year – the machines may also appear with the successor SoC M5. Apple will again bring the M4 onto the market in standard, Pro and Max versions, according to rumors. An Ultra version would be reserved for Mac Studio and/or Mac Pro. In contrast to its predecessor, the hardware is said to be similar – with the exception of the new Mac mini mentioned above.
