Three people arrested after fatal stabbing

THREE people were arrested following the fatal stabbing of a 41-year-old over the weekend.

Two men and a woman are in custody after police were called to an altercation between a group of men on Burton Road in Monk Bretton at 4.23pm yesterday (Sunday).

When emergency services arrived, they found a man with suspected stab wounds to the chest. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigators worked quickly to clarify the entanglements and have so far been able to arrest three people.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

A second 32-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were arrested on the same charges.

DCI Joanne Kemp said: “We know our communities are deeply shocked by the tragic incident this afternoon and we continue to work diligently to establish the details.

“We are aware that footage of the incident is circulating and I would ask you to remember that this investigation concerns a victim and his relatives.

“We urge you not to further share this footage or speculate on social media about the circumstances of the incident.

“Anyone with footage or information relating to the incident is asked to please pass it on to police and not to cause further distress to the victim's family.”
