Woman dies when tractor collides with autorickshaw in Patna

Patna, September 2 (IANS): At least one woman was killed and four others injured in Patna's Masaudhi district on Monday when a speeding tractor collided with the auto rickshaw in which the two were travelling.

The accident occurred when the tractor, allegedly speeding, collided with a three-wheeler carrying passengers. The victims hailed from Bembai Afzalpur and Gadaria Bigha villages in Uttarserthu panchayat under the jurisdiction of Pali police station in Jehanabad district.

The injured were initially admitted to a sub-divisional hospital in Masaudhi. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were later shifted to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for further treatment.

Police said the victims were on their way to Masaurhi market when the accident occurred. As their autorickshaw reached Megni Bigha village, it was hit by an out-of-control tractor. The collision was so violent that both the vehicles were thrown into the pit beside the road. Tragically, a woman died on the spot.

The deceased was identified as Kavita Singh, wife of Mukesh Kumar of Afzalpur Jehanabad, while the injured include Vidya Devi, Mukhi Prasad, Rohit Kumar and Hemanti Devi.

Sub-district police officer Nabh Vaibhav said police are currently investigating the incident from various angles to ascertain the exact cause and bring those responsible to justice.

“As soon as we received information about the tragic accident, our team reached the spot and rescued the passengers. They were hospitalized and later referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). Investigation is currently underway. The errant driver of the tractor fled from the accident spot. We are making efforts to nab him,” said SDPO Vaibhav.
