The number of knife attacks is increasing in Germany. Another attack has taken place in the open street. There are injuries in Aschaffenburg.

Aschaffenburg – A 26-year-old man from Afghanistan stabbed two fellow countrymen in Aschaffenburg, Lower Franconia. The two victims suffered serious injuries to their arms and face, police and prosecutors announced on Saturday (31 August). The men, aged 18 and 21, were able to leave the hospital on the same day as the crime.

26-year-old allegedly injured men with a knife – He was found because of “conspicuous clothing”

After a short manhunt, the suspected perpetrator was tracked down and arrested by the police – partly because of his conspicuous clothing, including a caftan (a long wool or silk shirt). “Very good witness information” contributed to this. An investigating judge issued an arrest warrant on Saturday, among other things on suspicion of attempted murder. The 26-year-old was subsequently taken to a correctional clinic.

Together with the federal police, the Aschaffenburg police then used numerous forces to search for the man, who had since fled. According to the officers, he was then provisionally arrested “at the Floßhafen” a short time later.

Probably a previous personal relationship between men – motive and background unclear

Initial investigations indicate that there was a previous personal relationship between the men, the investigating authorities said. The alleged perpetrator stabbed the men several times. The exact background to the crime and the suspect's motivation are still unclear.

According to their own statements, the police carried out extensive forensic investigations at the crime scene and the escape route. In addition, a police dog searched the area, particularly for the knife used in the crime, which the 26-year-old had thrown away after the alleged attack. The Aschaffenburg criminal police ordered the investigation, the statement continued.
