Powai police have arrested the accused Nazeem Khan, known as a local goon, and his accomplice Mainuddin Khan for attempt to murder and assault under sections 109, 115, 118(1), 3, 351 and 352 of the Bhartiya Nyay Sahinta. The accused will be produced in court on Monday.

The incident took place around 10 pm on Friday when Suraj was standing with his two friends outside Diamond Chinese Corner in Powai when Nazeem approached him and asked for money for liquor. “When Rishu refused, Nazeem took a knife and stabbed Rishu several times in his stomach, chest, shoulders and hands,” said Rishu's cousin Suraj Shrivastav, 25, the complainant in the case.

Suraj, who was in his office near his house, heard screams. When he looked outside, he saw a wounded Rishu on the road and Nazeem standing next to him with a bloody knife in his hand, threatening passersby that he would kill anyone who tried to help Rishu. After seeing me, Nazeem fled the scene. “I rushed Rishu to the trauma centre in Jogeshwari,” said Suraj.

According to police, Suraj told them that Rishu and Nazeem had a disagreement earlier this month over Nazeem's relationship with his sister, with whom he had been in a relationship for three years. “After this argument, Nazeem started looking for a reason to kill Rishu,” Suraj claimed.

Rishu's friends Harshad and Rahul Satpute tried to intervene and stop the fight when the two accused stabbed Harshad in the shoulder, after which the two fled fearing being killed.
